At Wildwood TV Lift Furniture, we build every cabinet from only real wood. So, where should you look instead? Ultimately you need a cabinet that is made from real wood, carries a decent warranty, and has a style that complements your space. Cheap alternatives can imitate the look, but they can’t perform like the real thing.Īs we’ve discussed, IKEA does not offer TV lift cabinets. TV lift cabinets should be built from solid materials like real wood that can withstand years and years of use. bearing down directly on the bottom of your cabinet… a smidgen more than your average sock drawer. That becomes an issue when a decent TV lift mechanism is 40-60 lbs., plus the TV that weighs in at 25-50 lbs. If you have purchased an item from IKEA, you have probably had a similar experience and you know that they build for style, not for strength. Then, after a year the whole piece is looking a little droopy and pigeon-toed under the unbearable burden of your socks and unmentionables. After about a week, you notice that some of the joints aren’t quite as square as they used to be and some of the drawers are sticking–you’re sure it’s nothing to be concerned about. Proud of your handiwork, you go about your day. So, seeing as you now have an empty dresser in your bedroom, the only thing left is to fill it chock full of your clothes–which you do. It’s shiny and beautiful and, after half of a Saturday, it’s finally fully assembled. Imagine staring at your brand new dresser. As universal as this experience seems to be, there is another experience with IKEA’s cabinetry that seems to be equally universal. That story may have resonated with you in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it resonated with nearly everybody who walked into an IKEA for the first time. Recall the story I shared above about the first time I walked into IKEA. TV Lift Mechanisms need to be built out of high-quality metal, mechanics, and electronics in order to be reliable and durable and IKEA probably doesn’t have the stomach for the price tags that accompany quality mechanisms. Much of this includes replacing building materials with very low-quality alternatives like particle board and melamine. I hate to break the hearts of IKEA fans everywhere, but IKEA makes their money by taking good looking furniture and then finding ways to build them extremely cheaply. However, while they are simple in design, they are the heart and soul of a decent TV lift cabinet, so they need to be ultra reliable, quiet, and relatively inexpensive. Compared to many of the components in the cars we drive every day they are like a kid’s science fair project. So, why doesn’t IKEA sell TV Lift Cabinets? We have a couple of thoughts on the subject. While there are videos online of customers retrofitting an IKEA cabinet into a TV lift cabinet, the company does not recommend such modifications–and we don’t either. While they produce a nearly unending product line, they have yet to get into the TV lift market. The short answer is no, IKEA does not offer TV Lift Cabinets. So, when you are in the market for a TV Lift Cabinet, can you turn to the Swedish furniture giant? Does IKEA sell TV Lift Cabinets? Most of those trips end with a visit to the food court for yet another deal that seems unbelievable. Many of us have had the experience of walking into IKEA for the first time, wandering for hours in rows and rows of deals that seem too good to be true. IKEA has a very dear place in many of our hearts.
